Chain Restaurant and Food Product Expert

Chain restaurant industry consultant and expert witness Juelene Beck has over 25 years of experience in the foodservice industry, including operations, food safety systems, fast food / foodservice suppliers, and relationships between chain restaurant franchisees and franchisors. She provides litigation support and consulting services relating to the food industry.

Career highlights include:

    • Burger King Corporation. While serving as Vice President of Supply and Restaurant Operations and Vice President of Supply Management and Quality Assurance, Ms. Beck managed the fast food restaurant's network of 1,300 suppliers worldwide, and particularly focused on their food safety and quality assurance compliance. She also held additional responsibility for product and packaging development worldwide, brand strategy, distribution, global sourcing, and delivery of brand standards in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Asia/Pacific and Latin America.

  • Brooks Food Group. Ms. Beck served as Executive Vice President for the company. She had direct responsibility for Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, Research and Development (R&D), Quality Assurance and Food Safety for this $100 million privately-held manufacturer of customized food products for the foodservice industry.

  • North American Association of Subway Franchisees: Ms. Beck served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for NAASF, the franchisee association representing owners of the 20,000+ Subway restaurants in the United States and Canada. She focused on developing tools to help franchisees manage their stores more effectively, e.g., store profitability models, training initiatives, new store development (i.e. real estate) models. Earlier, as a consultant for the Subway purchasing cooperative (IPC), she developed and implemented Subway's food safety system, with appropriate new processes and procedures, to allow for consistent food quality and safety standards across all North American Subway restaurants.

  • Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems, a unit of the Sara Lee Corporation: Expanding business with chain restaurants for this leading coffee-products supplier was Ms. Beck's primary responsibility during her time as Vice President of Chain Restaurants. Working with Burger King restaurants, she established DECS as the major coffee vendor for 6,000 stores within the fast food chain. Today, DECS is the sole source supplier of coffee to BK restaurants.

  • Dunkin' Donuts, Inc.: As Product Manager for beverages and later, donuts, Ms. Beck was responsible for all product, packaging, promotion, pricing and advertising decisions for beverage and donut products generating $400 million in annual sales. She did extensive product, promotion, and advertising testing around the country, working closely with franchisees. She led the development and test market introduction of Dunkin' Dippers, the first new donut product in the industry in 15 years. Ms. Beck developed and managed national product improvement programs for soup, juice and coffee. She completed a national changeover to Pepsi products and programs, building soft drink sales 80%.

  • Procter & Gamble: As part of the Crush Beverage brand, Ms. Beck served as "Technical Brand Manager" and then in several brand management positions. She analyzed the national beverage and carbonated soft drink market, and led a cross-functional team of 12 in the development of a new line of fruit juice carbonated beverages. Procter & Gamble was the franchisor of Crush beverages and Ms. Beck worked extensively with its franchisee bottlers.

  • Arthur D. Little: Ms. Beck started her career with this well-known worldwide consulting firm, where she evaluated international food processing, production, marketing and distribution operations. Ms. Beck managed or played a key role in consulting projects in Jamaica, Peru, Sri Lanka, Barbados, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and elsewhere. She facilitated business contracts between developing countries and U.S. food companies, while generating over $1 million in consulting fees.

  • RFC, Inc.: Ms. Beck managed her own consulting firm from 1995 to 2017, during which time she provided food safety and restaurant operations consulting services to the food processing and food service industries. She worked on major quick service restaurant (QSR) matters involving Subway, McDonald's, Burger King, and Jack in the Box, including assignments as an expert in a litigation support capacity.
